Do you look more like one parent or grandparent? Do you have your fathers or mothers eyes? Eye colors, nose shape, and many other physical features are some of the traits that are inherited from parents. An organism is a collection of all traits inside and out that are all inherited. Heredity is the passing on of traits from parent to offspring. What do you think controls these traits?

The different forms of a trait that a gene may have are called alleles. You receive one allele from each parent and your look is based on how "dominant" or "recessive" that allele is.
